Hon­our for SQU chem­istry teacher

MUSCAT: Prof. Salma Mo­hammed Al Kindy, Dean of the Col­lege of Sci­ence, and Pro­fes­sor in the Depart­ment of Chem­istry at Sultan Qa­boos Uni­ver­sity, has re­ceived a “Life­time achieve­ment award in Chem­istry” by the Venus In­ter­na­tional Foun­da­tion (VIF) based in Chen­nai, In­dia.

Prof. Salma Mo­hammed Al Kindy has been hon­oured in recog­ni­tion of her con­tri­bu­tion, re­search ex­cel­lence and ac­com­plish­ments in the field of chem­istry.

The award will be handed over to Prof. Al Kindy at the third An­nual Re­search Meet of the VIF to be held on Novem­ber 11 in Chen­nai, In­dia.

Salma Al Kindy com­pleted B.Sc (Honours) in chem­istry from the Fac­ulty of Sci­ence, Amer­i­can Uni­ver­sity of Cairo, Egypt in 1982.

Prof. Al Kindy re­ceived her Ph.D. in Chem­istry from Lough­bor­ough Uni­ver­sity, Lough­bor­ough, Eng­land, in 1987.

In­ter­na­tional awards

In 1989, Dr. Salma joined Sultan Qa­boos Uni­ver­sity as a lec­turer in Chem­istry Depart­ment. Prof. Al Kindy is a win­ner of sev­eral in­ter­na­tional awards and a mem­ber of in­ter­na­tional or­gan­i­sa­tions.

She has been elected as a Fel­low of TWAS (the academy of sci­ences for the de­vel­op­ing world) in 2010.

Prof. Al Kindy is the re­cip­i­ent of the United States Depart­ment of State’s award un­der the Women in Sci­ence Hall of Fame pro­gramme-2013.

Ad­vanc­ing in­no­va­tion

The Venus In­ter­na­tional Foun­da­tion is a lead­ing trust ded­i­cated to ad­vanc­ing in­no­va­tion and ex­cel­lence for the ben­e­fit of hu­man­ity.

It aims to serve aca­demic, re­search and prac­tic­ing pro­fes­sion­als who work on the fore­front of Agri­cul­tural Sci­ences, En­gi­neer­ing, Health and Med­i­cal Sci­ences, Hu­man­i­ties and So­cial Sci­ences, Man­age­ment, Sci­ence, Vet­eri­nary and An­i­mal Sci­ences.
