Arundhati, Aania in under-16 final

MUSCAT: Arundhati Ramesh will take on Aania Adap in the final of the girls under-16 singles title at the Villerroy & Boch +Hansgrohe Open Table Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman.

Arundhati earned her place in the summit clash after defeating Smitha Bhat 11-6, 11-5, 11-9 in the semifinal while Aania Adap rallied from a game down to overcome Manvi Sarawanan 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-7 in the second semifinal.

Meanwhile, Manvi Sarawanan and Aania Adap lined up a clash for the women’s singles title after winning their semifinals in contrasting styles. Aania scored a straightgames 11-7, 11-5, 12-10 win over Shwetha Ganesh while Manvi was given a run for her money before overcoming the Omani player, Sa- mah Al Wahaibi 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 1412 in the second semifinal.

Earlier in the quarterfinals, Aania Adap defeated Fatema Al Khamisi 11-3, 11-6, 11-5, Manvi Sarawanan coasted to a 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 win over Arundhati Ramesh, Shwetha Ganesh rallied from two games down to register a hardfought 4-11, 8-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-5 victory over Dimple Malawiya and Samah Al Wahaibi overcame Sonal Dhavale 11-8, 11-3, 6-11, 11-6.

With three victories in as many matches, Ishita Sharma finished on top of Group A in the girls under-13 followed by Dimple Malawiya in second place while in Group B of the roundrobin league, Manvi Sarawanan finished on top with Akshara Pateriya in second place to qualify for the semifinals.
