MUSCAT: The fourth annual Oman Air Media Awards was announced recently during the leading global trade show, World Travel Market, held at Excel London, November 6-8.

Over the last three years, the awards have been incredibly successful and attracted a very high calibre of entries from prominent media. This year’s awards saw an excellent response once again, with entries from editors, journalists and bloggers, as well as other industry partners’ writers.

The overall winner received a fantastic prize of a long-weekend break for two in Muscat, including Business Class return flights from London Heathrow and three nights’ half board accommodation in one of Muscat’s most luxurious hotels.

Mohammed Shikely, vice president of Marketing at Oman Air said, “Oman Air is celebrating 10 very successful years flying out of the UK and the Media Awards are incredibly important to us in raising Oman Air’s profile in this very competitive market. The Awards highlight how much we value the support of the English speaking media and we are very happy to recognise great writing and see the growing popularity of these awards which have been running for four years.”

Craig West was named the Overall Winner and winner of Airline Portrait for his article, Serving Oman in Airliner World.

The other winners for this year’s Media Award are: Andrew Eames for the Best Print Article: Bedouins and Breakfast in Financial Times UK; Jacqueline Hughes for Best Print Article in a Magazine for the article: The Land of Frankincense and romance in Cheshire Life; Daniel James, for the Best Blog Post for his article Ten Reasons to Visit Oman in his blog: Dan Flying Solo and Lizzie Pook for the online article: Road tripping the mountains, deserts and coast of Oman for Escapism.

Conditions of entry were to present Oman in a positive light, encouraging travel to the region.

Last year’s winner, Nigel Tisdall, one of the UK’s most prolific and well-known travel writers said: “Oman Air is one of the few airlines to run Media Awards and I was delighted that my travel article about Oman for the British edition of Marie Claire was judged to be both the Best Print Article in a Magazine and Overall Winner out of five media categories for 2016.

“As a freelance travel writer, it is always a privilege to receive recognition for a feature, especially when it comes to a generous prize of flights and accommodation. As a result, I’ll soon be heading back to Oman, a destination that is always rewarding to visit and write about.”
