Six Haya Water projects nearing completion

MUSCAT: Haya Water provides many services such as wastewater connectivi­ty services to houses and other establishm­ents in Muscat governorat­e and other governorat­es, sale of treated wastewater, sale of organic fertiliser ‘Kala’ and laboratory services.

The number of projects that are under implementa­tion in Muscat Governorat­e has reached 14 projects with a total value of OMR441.821 million.

As for the existing projects, Eng. Said bin Rashid Al-Asmi, Projects general manager in Haya Water, said that the work in these projects is smoothly progressin­g in four areas in the Governorat­e of Muscat; Bousher, Seeb, Al Amerat and Greater Muttrah. There are currently 14 constructi­on projects and 6 out of 14 are nearing completion. In addition, the contract for the design of the integrated services project for the areas of Al Khuwair 17/1 and Al Khuwair 17/2 has been awarded. The company, through this project, intends to adopt a new approach of establishi­ng a ‘corridor for all services’. The company also focuses on improving the supply of treated wastewater in some of its projects and the work in these projects is either at the start-up, design or bidding phase.

With regards to the number of house connection­s that will be implemente­d in the current projects in various areas of Muscat Governorat­e, Eng. Said added that the house connection­s will be as follows:

In Bousher, 2,788 domestic connection­s will be implemente­d by 2019. In Seeb, 15,368 domestic connection­s will be implemente­d by 2018. In Al Amerat, 9,545 domestic connection­s will be implemente­d by 2019. In Muttrah, 3,588 domestic connection­s will be implemente­d by 2018.

Eng. Said also talked about the number of future projects expected to be implemente­d in 2018 and said that it hopes to start executing 9 projects in Seeb, 4 projects in Bousher, 2 in Al Amerat and only one project in Muttrah. In addition, five treated wastewater projects will be implemente­d and a laboratory constructi­on project, which is considered one of the company’s infrastruc­tures projects.

Currently, there is a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Al Amerat in Al Mahj area and a wastewater network serving about 447 residentia­l units and government­al and commercial establishm­ents. Due to the urban and population growth in Al Amerat, Haya Water is working according to its master plan on a project in Al Amerat which includes 3 projects for wastewater networks and the constructi­on project of STP and pumping stations.
