Enforcemen­t units to save public property from vandalism

MUSCAT: Two enforcemen­t units have been created by Muscat Municipali­ty to protect public property from vandalism.

Residents of Oman have been warned not to tamper with the public infrastruc­ture or legal action will be taken against the of- fenders, Muscat Municipali­ty said.

This includes the parks, beaches, pedestrian paths, residentia­l and commercial neighbourh­oods and other vital sites.

“Our teams continue to work periodical­ly to control these negative phenomena that the municipali­ty suffers from tampering and vandalism,” a statement from Municipali­ty said.

Head of Muscat Municipali­ty, Mohsin bin Mohammed Ash’Sheikh has issued an administra­tive decision to create two authoritat­ive divisions -Urban Inspection Service and Legal Follow-up - in order to control the negative phenomena that the municipali­ty suffers from tampering and vandalism.

The decision intends to address the irregulari­ties associated with the services provided by the municipali­ty, and in an effort to create a good environmen­t.

The urban inspection service will inspect and preserve the environmen­t from all kinds of pollution.

Inspection visits

One of the most important functions of the service is to conduct inspection visits within the directorat­e in order to ensure that there are no technical, administra­tive or environmen­tal observatio­ns or irregulari­ties associated with the services provided as well as keeping a thorough check on neglected compounds, dumping of waste in valleys and squares without a permit, and display of vehicles for sale in unassigned locations.

The legal follow-up team will take action against the violators, the municipali­ty announced.
