Muscat to experience musical rhythms
MUSCAT: Led by the worldrenowned Ghatam (South Indian Percussion) legend, Vikku Vinayakram, ‘Guru Nada Samarpanam’ – A Percussive Consonance of Rhythms will be staged on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Hotel Sheraton Oman, Muscat.
This delightful showcase brought to you by Orbit Events Management will feature a music ensemble that brings with itself a rare legacy of musicians spanning across three generations.
Padma Bhushan Vikku Vinayakram has created music that is eternal and a body of work for generations to take inspiration from. His contribution to the world of music is unequalled. With several highly coveted national accolades, he is also the recipient of Grammy Award. His performance with Dr L. Shankar and Zakir Hussain to create best world music album Raga Aberi is etched in memories of music lovers.
Many, in his last performance at Royal Opera House Muscat, experienced his percussive mastery when he performed for ‘Sounds of Rhythm’ with several other international celebrities.
U. Rajesh on Mandolin
On Mandolin will be U Rajesh. He has several acclaimed works and has worked with John McLaughlin on a Grammy-nominated album - Floating Point. He brings to the stage a musical heritage that traces its lineage to his brother, the late great mandolin maestro – U. Srinivas.
V. Selvaganesh, yet another celebrity and son of Vikku Vinayakram will be on Kanjira (South Indian frame drum). Like father, his contribution to bringing Carnatic music on the world map is unmatched.
Admired for his immaculate style and innate creativity, he collaborates with musicians across the globe in genre-bending interpretations.
Swaminathan, the grandson of Vikku Vinayakram will also be part of the ensemble. He is regarded as a child prodigy by many stalwarts of Carnatic music under the mentorship of his father.
This concert will distinctively feature some rare yet wonderful instruments from the exponents namely, Ghatam by Vikku Vinayakram and V. Umashankar, Mridangam by N. Ramakrishnan, Drums & Kanjiraby V. Selvaganesh & S. Swaminathan respectively, Morsing (Jew’s harp) by A. Ganesan & Gethu Vadyam (hammered lute) by N. Rajaraman.
Umamahesh Vinayakram will also accompany these musicians on konnakol (mouth percussion).
This evening promises to be a percussive consonance of rhythms to all.
