MUSCAT: Nepal is participating in the Muscat Festival, and has erected a stall at the Amerat Park, which was inaugurated on January 18 by Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, Ambassador of Nepal.

The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat is participating in the Muscat Festival for the first time.

The stall has unique Nepali handicrafts on display, such as wooden peacock windows, brass and bronze utensils, khukuris, dhakatopis, purses, teas, Pashmina, and musical instruments, such as the damphu, madal, and sarangi, along with fascinating photos of Mount Everest, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchre, and other cultural heritage sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur.

Visitors to the stall are welcomed with a variety of Nepali teas, including green tea and white tea of the Himalayas.

Folk dances were performed by the Nepali community on the first day. The embassy is participating in the event to showcase Nepal’s ethnic culture, traditions and heritage. It is expected to expand opportunities to interact with Omanis and attract more tourists from Oman to Nepal.

The Himalayan nation wants to extend socio-economic and dip- lomatic relations between Nepal and Oman. This will also serve as an opportunity for interactions between the two communities.

The Muscat Festival is organised every year by the Muscat Municipality, and includes fireworks, theatre shows, folk art, acrobatic events, educational programmes, cartoons, contests, recreation programmes, and bands for children and adults.

The embassies of Nepal and the United States are participating in the festival this year. The festival will run for 24 days, from January 18 to February 10.
