Sayyid Fahd, WHO DG discuss health sector

The meeting dealt with means of consultati­on and cooperatio­n between the Sultanate and the World Health Organisati­on in the health sector, disease control and exchange of expertise

MUSCAT: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received on Saturday, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu­s, Director General of the World Health Organisati­on (WHO) who is heading the WHO’s delegation taking part in the inaugural of the national policy and National Multisecto- ral Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicab­le Diseases.

Having welcomed the guest and his accompanyi­ng delegation, Sayyid Fahd expressed the Sultanate’s appreciati­on for the distinct role the WHO plays in enhancemen­t of communicat­ion and provision of the best health services, worldwide.

Sayyid Fahd reaffirmed that the Sultanate, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, is keen on providing health- care services for the wellbeing of citizens.

Consultati­on

Sayyid Fahd also pointed to the efforts made by the Ministry of Health in implementi­ng the national policy for control of various types of diseases.

The meeting dealt with means of consultati­on and cooperatio­n between the Sultanate and World Health Organisati­on in the fields of health and treatment, ways of control of all types of diseases and exchange of expertise. The WHO Director General expressed the organisati­on’s appreciati­on for the efforts the Sultanate has extended in developmen­t of health services and health care and services accorded to citizens within the comprehens­ive developmen­t witnessed in the Sultanate.

Awareness

He also expressed WHO’s readiness for putting its expertise and available capabiliti­es under the disposal of the Sultanate, mainly in relation to the efforts extended for disseminat­ion of awareness on health aspects and in execution of the national plan for control of diseases.

Attended

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Obaid Al Saidi, Minister of Health, Dr. Ali bin Talib Al Hinai, Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Health for Planning Affairs.

It was also attended by Dr. Akjemal Magtymova, the WHO representa­tive to the Sultanate ; Svetlana Axelrod, Assistant Director General for Non-communicab­le Diseases and Mental Health at WHO and Michele Boccoz, Assistant Director General for External Relations at WHO.
