China dominate at Oman Junior and Cadet Open

MUSCAT: Young Chinese continued to dominate the proceeding­s at the Oman Junior and Cadet Open being organised at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

The championsh­ips, the first ITTF Premium Junior Circuit event to be organised in the Sultanate, will culminate with a colourful closing ceremony on Sunday with Minister of Sports Affairs Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardhouf Al Saadi presiding over as the chief guest.

The championsh­ips so far saw the Chinese dominate the proceeding­s winning top honours in three team events - junior boys, cadet boys and cadet girls categories.

In the junior boys team final, China defeated the combined team of Thailand and Egypt 3-0 to emerge the champions. Similarly in the cadet boys team summit clash, China blanked India A 3-0.

In the cadet girls team final, China team recorded a similar 3-0 win over a combined team of Greece and Egypt.

Meanwhile,Omani talents Ahmed Al Riyami, Muaz Al Shahi and Mohammed Mata’wa advanced to the second round of the singles competitio­ns.

Results: Junior boys team final: China bt Thailand/Egypt 3-0: Haidong Xu bt Marwan Abdelwahab 11-7, 9-11, 11-4. Licen Yuan bt Yanapong Panagitgun 11-8, 11-9, 11-4. Licen Yuan/ Kaiyuan Quan bt Marwan Abdelwahab/ Yanapong Panagitgun 11-9, 11-9, 11-8.

Cadet boys team final: China bt India A 3-0: Peng Xiang bt Jash Amit Modi 11-1, 11-5, 11-3. Mengyang Xiaon bt Hrishikesh Malhotra 11-6, 11-6, 11-4. Peng Xiang/Mengyang Xiaon bt Jash Amit Modi/Hrishikesh Malhotra 11-5, 11-5, 11-9.

Cadet girls team final: China bt Greece/Egypt 3-0: Yuqi Li bt Farida Badawy 11-5, 11-5, 11-7. Man Kuai bt Malamateri­nia Papadimitr­iou 11-4, 111, 11-4. Man Kuai/Ximyue Ma bt Farida Badawy/Malamateri­nia Papadimitr­iou 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.
