Oman plans to build major port in Sur

Plans are afoot to set up a total of 24 projects, which include four new factories that entered production phase. The total leasable area within the industrial estate in Sur is estimated at 23.66 million square metres.

MUSCAT: A feasibilit­y study to build a port near Sur Industrial Estate is underway. The feasibilit­y report is expected to be submittedd­uring the first half of the current year.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to establish a total of 24 projects, which include four new factories that entered production phase. Further, a one-kilometre road was paved in cooperatio­n with Khalid bin Ahmed and Sons in Sur. The total leasable area within the industrial estate is estimated at 23.66 million square metres, of which 6.72 million square metres are actually leased. The foreign workforce in Sur Industrial Estate has touched 2,499.

An investment tender was announced for a sewage plant in Sur Industrial Estate, and the project is expected to be awarded in February, 2018. The consultanc­y project for design and supervisio­n of the planning and infrastruc­ture services of the estate has also been announced, and the project is expected to be awarded before the end of the first quarter of 2018. A number of investment opportunit­ies have been raised and they would be announced during the first half of 2018.

This was announced by the Public Establishm­ent for Industrial Estates (PEIE) in its latest report to mark Oman’s Industry Day celebratio­ns on February 9. This is to commemorat­e the visit of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to Rusayl Industrial Estate on February 9, 1991.

Oman’s industrial­isation drive continues to witness massive expansion in the total number of leased areas, infrastruc­ture projects, investment­s, number of projects and job opportunit­ies in the industrial estates across the Sultanate. This report highlights major achievemen­ts witnessed by the industrial estates that pertain to PEIE during 2017, comprising of Rusayl, Nizwa, Sumail, Sohar, Buraimi, Raysut, Sur, Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM). investment tender was announced to establish a commercial area. It should be noted that the total investment volume in the estate has touched OMR617.06 million. The number of national workforce in the existing projects in the estate has reached 5,377, while the number of foreign workforce has touched 13,933.
