MUSCAT: After five years of achievements in various international karting championships, young Shihab Al Habsi is graduating to Formula 4 with this year’s French Formula 4 Championship.

According to his father Ahmed, the young Omani talent has passed the ‘test’ FFSA Academy and will now be taking part in the 2018 French Formula 4 Championship.

A proud Ahmed revealed Shihab became the first Omani to join the French academy and how is on the verge of becoming a Formula 4 driver.

“At F4 FFSA Academy, Shihab had to prove his worth in the test drives to be selected for the academy. I am glad he did just that with a second fastest lap to be selected,” Ahmed said.

“It was his first time in a big car as he was only participating in the karting events. But he showed he is comfortable in the Formula 4 car and showed good speed too.”

“I am really glad after five years of karting, he is moving into Formula 4. We are really proud of him,” he added.

Shihab’s first outing in the new car will be on April 1 when the French Formula 4 Championship kicks off at Nogaro International Race Circuit (Circuit Paul Armagnac).

Ahmed, meanwhile, expressed his gratitude to all those who have been supporting Shihab in his motorsport journey and especially thanked Ministry of Sports Affairs, Al Zubair Corporation and Oman Air for their backing since the beginning of his career.
