Z-Corp backs Oman Handball School Championship
MUSCAT: To propagate passion for sports among school students, The Zubair Corporation (Z-Corp) has extended its support to the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championship being held across Oman. While the first match of the championship was kicked off in Sohar recently, the other championship matches will be held in Nizwa on March 26 and Sur on April 1. 12 teams and 256 players from various schools will participate in the championship.
Suleiman bin Abaad School was the winner of the Sohar leg of the championship. While Ahmed bin Said school was the runner-up, Khalfan bin Jamil School won the third place and Abdullah bin Al Bahsar School finished fourth.
Mitsubishi Oman, represented by General Automotive Company, organised the competition in association with the Oman Handball Association (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributor for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Z-Corp.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Z-Corp is actively involved in supporting locally based initiatives that touch the lives of children in sport. While Z-Corp has always been committed to supporting the sports sector in the Sultanate, it believes that to cultivate sporting talent in Oman, youngsters should be provided with the perfect ambience to develop it. Z-Corp has been supporting various activities that encourage young Omanis to take up sports and supporting this event is part of that strategy.
Dr Said bin Ahmed Al Shehri, chairman of the Oman Handball Association said, “We are extremely grateful that a group like The Zubair Corporation is supporting our association. Z-Corp’s commitment and support have given an enormous boost to the development of sports and associated clubs in the country. Inspiring school students’ participation in such tournaments will make a positive difference to their lives. Such championships will encourage and highlight good team spirit among students. I wish more private sector institutions contribute to popularising sports which can help sports associations identify young talents to represent Oman at international events.”
Zuwaina Al Azri, communications manager, Zubair Automotive Group said, “In the framework of enhancing public and private sector partnership, Z-Corp has been supporting all the activities of Oman Handball Association since we signed an agreement in October 2015. Z-Corp has played a key role in sponsoring and developing sports in the Sultanate by supporting professional and amateur sports organisation, sports clubs and competitions.
“We have a strong commitment to supporting sports team, clubs and organisations across the Sultanate. These school students are Oman’s future and we are delighted to support them.”
In January 2018, Z-Corp extended support to Oman Handball Association to organise a school tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Last year in March, Z-Corp supported Mitsubishi Oman Handball Joiners Championship held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Mitsubishi Oman had organised the competition in association with the Oman Handball Association. In July, to recognise the outstanding contribution of players who represented the Sultanate, Z-Corp and Mitsubishi Oman felicitated the Sultanate’s national handball players at the Mitsubishi showroom.
Showcasing its continuous commitment to all kinds of sports, Z-Corp has been a partner and sponsor of different sports activities including football, chess, ice sports, volleyball for many years.
