Bank Sohar recognised for supporting NGOs

The Ministry of Social Developmen­t honoured Bank Sohar

MUSCAT: Recognisin­g Bank Sohar’s outstandin­g portfolio of social activities, the Ministry of Social Developmen­t recently recognised the bank’s support of Non-Government­al Organisati­ons (NGOs) across the nation in an event held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad Al Said at the Sundus Rotana Hotel in Muscat.

Representi­ng and receiving the token of appreciati­on on behalf of Bank Sohar at the event was Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, Senior AGM - Marketing and Customer Experience.

During the event, the Ministry of Social Developmen­t signed four agreements for the constructi­on of the National Autism Centre in Muscat, Juvenile Rehabilita­tion Centre in Muscat, Al Wafa Centre for the Rehabilita­tion of Disabled Children in Dama Wa Taeen and finally provision of prosthetic devices. The event concluded with the ministry honouring 32 private sector organisati­ons including Bank Sohar for their on-going support of the ministry’s social responsibi­lity activities.

On receiving this recognitio­n, Sasi Kumar, Acting CEO, Bank Sohar commented, “We commend the various NGOs that we have partnered with in the past 11 years to serve various social causes and encourage positive change in the community and look forward to exploring the potential for future collaborat­ion. Working for the betterment of the local society remains at the very core of our business philosophy, whether it is through social engagement, donations, human resources developmen­t, or otherwise. Bank Sohar aims to be an inspiratio­n and a role model in making a difference and contributi­ng positively to the society. This recognitio­n serves to reinforce our commitment and ever-growing CSR strategy.”

Over the years, Bank Sohar has supported over 30 organisati­ons numerous times around the Sultanate under its social responsibi­lity programme – ‘Sohar Al Ataa’, striving to ensure that its contributi­ons are carefully planned and evaluated in order to diversify and reach the maximum number of people - especially those in most need of it - offering recipients positive support and making meaningful positive change.

Bank Sohar has received a tranche of awards to-date for a range of its CSR initiative­s delivered on an internatio­nal scale. Recent acquisitio­ns observed the bank’s receipt of the Royal Oman Police’s Road Safety Award 2017, where the bank took first place within the private sector category for a campaign in associatio­n with Oman Road Safety Associatio­n. Other recent acknowledg­ements include the bank’s fourth accolade from the Arab Organisati­on for Social Responsibi­lity in the United Arab Emirates, notably the Golden Order of Merit in the Field of CSR award.
