87% of employees in civil service are Omanis

Included in the above achievement are the High Judicial Institute, Al Raffd Fund, the Public Authority for Mining, the Council of Administrative Affairs for the Judiciary, and the Ministry of Tourism. Expats currently comprise 13.1 per cent of the total civil service employees, while the percentage of Omani employees is 86.9.

“The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs has sought to provide an attractive work environment by focusing on human resources, refining them with skills and expertise in accordance with the best professional, technical and academic practices,” Al Dhahli said.

“The ministry has achieved approximately 100 per cent Omanisation, where we have 1,239 Omani employees and only two foreign workers,” Al Dhahli added.

The data also determined that the Ministry of Health has the highest percentage of expats, amounting to 30.7 per cent of the total employees in the ministry, followed by the Ministry of Manpower with 13.9 per cent, and the Ministry of Education with 11.7 per cent.

The Ministry of Education has the highest number of female employees amounting to 48,379. On the other hand, there are no female employees in the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister for Council of Ministers.

With regard to recruitment in the first half of 2017, 110 Omani women with diplomas, degrees and above were recruited, compared to 77 men at the same academic level. In total, 223 employees were recruited during the period from January 1, 2017, to June 6, 2017.

Similarly, more expat women have been recruited to government institutions than men; 66.6% of all expats recruited were women. The Ministry of Health recruited the highest number of expats and Omanis, with 96.8 per cent and 49.3 per cent, respectively.

On the other hand, 949 Omanis resigned from public institutions: the majority from crafts and support services, medical and public health services and from supervisory and leadership, with 383, 351, and 160 resignations, respectively. Similarly, the total number of expats who left their jobs during the first half of 2017 was 436, of which 225 were women and 211 were men.

In the last 20 years, the percentage of civil service employees has increased by 26.8 per cent, wherein 1,997 Omani employees amounted to 68.5 per cent of all employees in the civil service; in 2017 this percentage increased to 86.9.
