Omanisation rate high in finance sector

Decision No. 113/2018 determines the percentage of national manpower for the years 2018, 2019, and 2020.

The result points out that by 2020, Omanisation in the insurance sector at all hierarchal levels will be over 50 per cent.

The Ministry of Manpower also said, “Omanisation in the private sector has increased to 12.1 per cent.” The rate increased from 11.4 percent in 2015.

The highest Omanisation rate is in financial and insurance activity, with 80.4 per cent.

In terms of professions in the private sector, clerical professions saw the highest rate of Omanisation at 95.5 per cent.

More than 80 per cent of the jobs in Oman are occupied by expatriates, according to a study.

According to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), 1,825,603 million jobs are occupied by expatriates, and Omanis only occupy 429,806 jobs in both government and private sectors.

While 1,787,979 expats work in the private sector, 37,624 were employed in the government sector at the end of 2016.

While 83.8 per cent Omanis, however, work in the government sector, totaling 195,937, 233,869 Omanis work in the private sector.

The statistics showed that the total number of workers increased from 1,682,574 million in 2012 up to 2,255,409 million by the end of 2016, which means that 572,835 more jobs were created in these five years.

The government sector created 39,235 jobs compared to 533,600 jobs in the private sector between 2012 and 2016.

The largest number of expatriates work in the construction sector, which constitutes 35 per cent of total expats, followed by the wholesale and retail sector.
