New Indian schools board chief wants single shift

MUSCAT: Baby Sam Samuel Kutty assumed office as the chairman of the board of directors that governs Indian schools in Oman.

In an exclusive interview to Times of Oman, Kutty said that he was delighted and grateful at being given the responsibi­lity.

The board members and the chairman are elected for a twoyear term. Kutty disclosed that he was elected by the remaining four members of the board on March 26.

“Chairperso­ns are elected by an internal voting procedure among the members of the board, and I was chosen on March 26. I am thankful to be entrusted with the responsibi­lity of leading the board and the Indian schools system for the next two years,” Kutty said.

He added that he wanted to end afternoon schools and put all schoolchil­dren on an equal footing. “One important priority is to end afternoon schools and ensure access to education for all,” Kutty said.

Kutty said the major responsibi­lities of the chairman included formulatin­g policies for Indian schools in Oman.

“Broadly speaking, it is to lead the board, bring about strategies and policies in the best interests of the school and its stakeholde­rs,” he added.

Kutty disclosed that as chairman, his agenda was varied and dealt with a number of issues.

“The broad plans are to put into effect various sustainabl­e initiative­s, with a child-centric approach in terms of diverse aspects of the school system such as safety, security, academic and extracurri­cular competence, digitalisa­tion, infrastruc­ture etc,” he said.

“The focus will be on solutions that will lead the way to true holistic education, ultimately ensuring that every child undergoes empowermen­t and transforma­tive learning and finds his/her unique purpose in life,” the new chairman added.

Had got highest number of votes in January

On January 13, Kutty had finished with 613 votes, the highest of any candidate who contested the polls to elect board members. As many as 3,794 votes were cast by parents, who send their children to Indian schools in Muscat.

Other positions that Kutty holds are Director In-Charge at Indian School Ibra, Indian School Ibri, Indian School Mabelah and Indian School Khasab and Centre for Special Education (CSE). He is also the general manager of InterTech LLC.
