Symposium on integrating architecture and design held
MUSCAT: The Scientific College of Design organised Design Seminar integrating architecture and design.
The opening included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Museum on the exchange of expertise and facilities.
Jamal Al Moosawi, National Museum director enlightened attendees with an informative overview of the museum.
The Design Seminar was also an implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Minho from Portugal for the exchange of expertise. Dean Maria Manuel Oliveira and Vice Dean Jorge Correia presented an informative lecture on the architecture and heritage.
Dr Natasha Moutinho explored drawing as a teaching and research tool to integrate architecture, design, and visual arts.
Dr Marta Labastida, Dr Katja Tschimmel, and Marta Oliveira presented various aspects of architectural and product design.
The Design Seminar was a platform for the exchange of information and expertise between University of Minho faculty and the Scientific College of Design Architecture and Graphic Design faculty and students as well as other higher educational institutions. Design and drawing workshops were conducted at the National Museum.
Participants had a positive response to this professional engagement as they had an opportunity to be exposed to local and international educators and researchers. The Scientific College of Design announced that the upcoming symposium will include other higher education institutions along with other organisations from the community to investigate the integration of art and design with other fields.
