MUSCAT: The second phase of the Ibri-Yanqul dual carriageway project will be opened on April 9, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said.

The road will be opened under the auspices of Eng. Saleem bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of Ministry of Transport and Communications for Transport. The second phase of the IbriYanqul dual carriageway will cost a total of OMR42,154,831 for a length of 34km.

Officials from the Roads Department at the ministry stated that the total cost of the first phase touched some OMR6 million. The project includes 125 lighting poles, as well as flood water drainage from the Qarn Kabsh roundabout to the roundabout linking the Al-Areedh region. They also stated that the road has been built keeping in mind the future growth of traffic in the governorate. The project will link a number of areas and villages in the governorate of Dahirah.

The project includes two asphalt lanes on each side, with a width of 3.75m, with a 2.5m-wide asphalt external shoulder and a 1.5m internal shoulder.

Ahmed Al Ghafri, an Ibri resident, said that the new carriageway road will help reduce road accidents in that area. “Many fatal accidents took place on this stretch,” he said. Naser Al Muqbali, another resident, said that it will become easier to travel to Yanqul with the new road, as it will save time.
