Bayan College inks pact with UMKC

MUSCAT: Bayan College, Oman and the Curators of the University of Missouri on behalf of University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), USA signed an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cultural and educational cooperation and in line with a mutual desire to promote future cooperation and understanding between the two esteemed institutions to enhance the intellectual and experimental resources.

Dr Modi Juma Saleh Al Ghailani, Bayan College said that both institutions have agreed to promote education and research cooperation on the basis of mutual respect for their autonomy and under the laws and regulations in force in each country and institution and within their available resources while signing the agreement.

In prior to an initial signing Dr Modi visited the University of Missouri, had several talks and meetings with the officials, and said that signing this agreement with UMKC can add value to Bayan College. UKMC have more than 16,000 students and which is one of the largest comprehensive, fully accredited university in the Kansas City area.

Both institutions have agreed on the general forms of cooperation like joint research and educational activities at both bachelors and graduate levels, discussion of the development, organisation and delivery of non-degree executive programs, the exchange of invitations to scholars (faculty, research personnel and graduate students) to participate in lectures, conferences and symposia, the exchange of faculty, staff and research personnel for study and research, the exchange of graduate and undergraduate students, the exchange of academic and scientific information of mutual interest and any other mutually agreed upon activity that would benefit both parties.

Dr Modi also added that this MoU can provide the foundation and framework for the particular projects by academic and administrative units from the two institutions.

Private media college

Bayan College is the first private media college in the Sultanate of Oman offering majors in broadcasting, journalism, public relations and advertising. The college also offers English Literature and English Professional Writing under its Faculty of English Literature. Bayan College operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and is affiliated with Purdue University - Northwest USA.
