Seminar on arbitration for sport launched
MUSCAT: Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee (DRASC) of the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) launched a seminar on the arbitration for sport on Sunday.
The three-day seminar and training progammes was officially inaugurated at the OOC Headquarters with the Sultanate’s Olympic body Secretary-General Taha Al Kishry delivering the welcome speech. On the opening day, Dr. Abdullah bin Misfir Al Hayyan, board member of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), delivered a working paper on the historical background of International Council of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) and its statutes.
He also touched upon the principles and system of arbitration for sport as approved by the CAS.
Al Hayyan spoke at length about the arbitration proceedings pursued at the CAS and duties and responsibilities of various arbitration boards set up for arbitration of the sport-related disputes.
On the second day of the progamme, Dr. Hamad bin Khamis Al Jahwari, Chairman of Appeal Court in Rustaq, will deliver a paper on arbitration in accordance with the legal and organisational framework in Oman.
On the final day, Ziyad bin Ali Al Balushi, member of Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee, will speak about the sports arbitration system within the OOC’s Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee.
