OOC to host Fun Run to promote Asian Games

MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee, in co-operation with the Olympic Council of Asia, will organise a Fun Run to promote the 2018 Asian Games on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), the the Fun Run will race will take place from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. between Al Bahri Road to Oman Opera House.

Sheikh Saad bin Mohammed Al Mardhoof Al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, will preside over the closing ceremony.

The Sultanate is among a number of Asian countries chosen by the Asian Games organisers to host the promotiona­l event.

Culture of sports

The Fun Run is aimed at promoting the 18th edition of the Asian Games scheduled to be orgnised in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.

By conducting the Fun Run, the Oman Olympic Committee is seeking to ‘activate the social sports programme, instill the culture of sports exercise as a lifestyle within the society, propagate the Olympic ideals and strengthen the value of fun and friendship towards a healthy life’.

The event will be attended by Hussain Al Musallam, DirectorGe­neral of the Olympic Council of Asia, a number of representa­tives of the Asian Games Organising Committees, board members of Oman Olympic Committee and chairmen of sports associatio­ns and committees. More than 400 students from selected schools in Muscat Governorat­e and Oman Paralympic Committee will take part in the Fun Run.
