MUSCAT: Bait Al Zubair has awarded its first art prize to Omani pioneer Anwar Sonya during the launch of its Art Days forum in Muscat.

The museum’s event, which brings artists from various disciplines under one roof alongside enthusiasts, aims to unite ideas and visualisations to enhance Omani art.

Bait Al Zubair Art Days features an exhibition of more than 20 Omani artists, an Arabic calligraphy workshop by Turkish calligrapher Mohammad Ozjay, and “Desert Melody”, a two-day workshop with Omani

Salim Sakhi.

Bait Al Zubair also launched a new Arabic-language book on Anwar Sonya written by Dr. Marwan Imran, Art Advisor to the museum. Imran said, “I feel very

artist joyful. I feel that it is an honour for me to write a case study on the contemporary art of Oman. My plan is for a series of books about Omani pioneers. The first one is about Anwar Sonya, because Anwar Sonya is the master of Omani contemporary art since Oman’s establishment phase.”

The museum will be opening an exhibition titled “Historical Angles” to showcase the work of Omani photographer Fatma Al Qassabi, who captures the Sultanate’s unique architectural heritage through her lens.

The museum will also be hosting several shops selling painting material and calligraphic art.
