ISAS lifts inter school football trophy

MUSCAT: Indian School Al Seeb (ISAS) lifted the U-15 inter school football trophy in the tournament organised by TelyBoyz at Al Amal club recently.

The fast-footed boys from Indian School Seeb convincing­ly beat the boys from Indian School Muscat 4 – 0 with star striker Afsal scoring a hatrick. Although ISM showed a lot of promise throughout the tournament to reach the finals, the Seeb boys were too good for them to handle in the finals.

This year’s tournament being the third edition had the participat­ion of Indian School Muscat, Al Wadi Al Kabir, Darsait, Ghubra, Seeb, Mabela, Muladha and Nizwa. The teams were grouped into two pools with the top two teams from both the pools making it into the semi-finals.

In the first semi-finals, the highly skilled boys from Indian School Seeb beat Indian School Nizwa, who was unfortunat­e to lose on penalties. Moreover, in the second semi-final, the talented boys from ISM edged past first editions champions ISWK, who played a brilliant game but could not convert some very good opportunit­ies created.

The tournament was inaugurate­d by Neelu Rohra, Second Secretary, Community Welfare, Indian Embassy. The coaches of the eight Indian schools were also honoured during the ceremony for their tireless efforts in nurturing the skills of the schoolboys.

While Gaurav Negi of Indian School Seeb received the award for the best player of the tournament, Yusuf Kizai from Indian School Nizwa received the award for the best goalkeeper.

“We wanted to provide a platform for the schoolboys to showcase their talent and are truly overwhelme­d with the response we have been receiving for this tournament from the schools, parents and sponsors. The quality of football we have seen is brilliant and therefore we have plans to make the fourth edition even bigger by involving more teams,” quipped Tafsi Kannur of TelyBoyz.
