Competency event ends, participan­ts honoured

MUSCAT: His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan patronised at the Sheraton Hotel on Sunday the conclusion of the 2nd version of Government Competency Programme.

The programme was implemente­d by the Ministry of Civil Service, in cooperatio­n with the Institute of Public Administra­tion (IPA) and Kafa’ah Company for Human Resources Developmen­t.

Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, said in a press statement that the Government Competency Programme is one of the important programmes to enhance competenci­es of leaders at the public and other organisati­ons.

He added that the Sultanate needs such competenci­es to develop management, leadership and innovation and create human resources that can take over leadership and management at the public and private organisati­ons.

He also stressed the need to continue such programmes.

“This qualitativ­e and specialise­d programme is one of the internatio­nal programmes in the field of developing administra­tive leadership,” said Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service. He added that the themes of the programme cover the practical skills and creative talents that should be possessed by holders of seniors posts.

Sheikh Al Marhoon made a presentati­on on the areas related to enhancing practical efficiency and promoting the government­al work system.

He highlighte­d the prerogativ­es of the Ministry of Civil Service that included approving the organisati­onal structures of the government­al institutio­ns, as well as their developmen­t throughout the past four decades.

As more as 42 directors’ general, assistant directors’ general and their equivalent­s took part at the second version of the programme.

A number of elite lectures and speakers in the Middle East and the Arab region, in addition to undersecre­taries and CEOs of public organisati­ons and companies covered the main themes of the programme.

The programme aims at developing leading personalit­ies that can promote change by providing them with several skills related to understand­ing the government­al work, the developmen­t in government­al organisati­ons management and the best internatio­nal practices in transformi­ng government­al sector into an active and dynamic sector.

It also aimed at improving the top management­s skills and knowledge through improving certain competenci­es, such as strategic, social and economic planning, performanc­e assessment and management, project management, leading change, leading work teams and communicat­ion.

Thanks to this programme, participan­ts managed to acquire more skills on adopting institutio­nal vision and developmen­t, promoting innovation, ensuring effective leadership of work teams, building relation and continuous learning from the different available sources of informatio­n.

At the end of the ceremony, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq bin Taimour Al Said, Advisor of His Majesty the Sultan honoured the participan­ts at the second version of the programme and wished them success.
