Al Jisr Foundation in UN Global Compact

MUSCAT: The Al Jisr Foundation in Oman has become the country’s first non-profit organisati­on to sign the United Nations Global Compact.

In doing so, the charitable foundation joins more than 12,000 organisati­ons worldwide in furthering the Global Compact’s ten principles of responsibl­e governance and ethics encompassi­ng human rights, labour, environmen­t, and anti-corruption.

The UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainabi­lity initiative in the world. Signatorie­s include a wide range of organisati­ons among which are corporates such as Lego, Microsoft, Sabic; smaller, non-profit organisati­ons such as Injaz, the King Khaled Foundation besides signatorie­s on the municipal level, such as the city of Dubai.

Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Chairman, UN Global Compact Foundation, said: “I congratula­te the Al Jisr Foundation on becoming the first non-profit organisati­on in Oman to sign the UN Global Compact. Its leadership is to be commended for this sincere public commitment to practise and promote these essential principles for organisati­onal excellence.”

Al Jisr Foundation Director Sultan Al Busaidi said: “As a Zakat foundation, Islamic values and principles are at the heart of everything we do. Recognizin­g the compatibil­ity between Islamic values and the more general values which underpin the UN Global Compact, and indeed the Global Goals, we are shaping our strategy and initiative­s in a way that will help us consistent­ly achieve both.”
