MUSCAT: The Embassy of Japan in Oman unveiled the MEXT scholarship programme, which offers Omani students the opportunity to study in the land of the rising sun.

Introduced during an event titled “Japanese Government Scholarship and Student Life In Japan”, staff, led by Hideaki Yamamoto, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan, provided students with a detailed overview of the higher education programme. The Japanese government’s scholarship initiative supports foreign students who study in higher education institutions, selected on the recommendation of a Japanese embassy/consulate general, university, or authority.

Yamamoto, speaking at Sultan Qaboos University’s Lecture Hall, said, “We welcome more outstanding Omani students to study in Japan and they are expected to play an active role in promoting distinguished bilateral relations between Japan and Oman during their studies in Japan and upon their return to Oman.”

Kananko Fukuda, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy, followed with a presentation highlighting the benefits of the scholarship, as well as the necessary application procedures. Selected students will be subject to a six-month intensive study of the Japanese language in most cases.

Hamza Al Kindi, a former scholarship student and participant of the MEXT programme, shared his experience in Japan with the attendees.

Applications for the 2019 MEXT scholarship are currently open for postgraduate students and will officially close on June 2, 2018. Applications can be made on the Embassy of Japan in Oman’s official website.
