MUSCAT: Heirs of the late Mohammed bin Qasim Al Zadjali donated two endoscopes to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Khoula Hospital on Sunday morning, on behalf of their deceased father.

The cost of the equipment is approximately OMR50,000.

“Our father was a very kind man, we wanted to do this from a humanitarian perspective,” one of the heirs told Times of Oman.

Dr. Rashid Al Riziqi, Director General of Khoula Hospital, and a number of hospital officials attended the handover ceremony.

Al Zadjali passed away on April 1, 2016, leaving behind 12 children. “My siblings and I wanted to do something in his honour, we wanted to make sure that it would help as many people as possible. Initially, the decision was between building a mosque and donating medical equipment,” the heir added. Al Zadjali’s heirs researched the various types of equipment needed in the Sultanate, specifically ones that would have the most impact on the youth.

On behalf of the management of the hospital, Dr. Suwailim Al Ghannami, Consultant Physician and head of the orthopaedic department at the hospital, thanked the sons of the late Al Zadjali for their good initiative, which he said will contribute greatly to the increase in endoscopies for sports injuries and fractures.

Rationale

“There were doctors who spoke to us and informed us that some hospitals get very crowded, and some patients wait for more than a year for an appointment,” the heir said. “The reason we chose Al Khoula hospital is because it is known to specialise in orthopaedic surgery. Residents come from all over the Sultanate to be treated there, due to its great reputation.”

“When we handed over the endoscopes, I felt very happy and proud because I knew that my father would be remembered because of this gesture,” the heir added.
