Ooredoo supports Oman’s Smart City Vision at Comex

MUSCAT: Firmly focused on Oman’s path towards digital transforma­tion, Ooredoo is sharing its view on the implementa­tion of Smart City applicatio­ns, and the responsibi­lity that comes with it, at the Sultanate’s leading IT Telecoms and Technology seminar, Comex 2018 held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre from April 23 to 25.

The company is also showcasing the smart home concept that is driven by Ooredoo’s Fast and Superfast Home Broadband. Reinforcin­g its commitment as the Sultanate’s digital partner of choice, Ooredoo will be the digital partner for the Smart Cities & Industry Summit 4.0 with their Director of Informatio­n and Communicat­ion Technology (ICT) & Business Developmen­t, Abdulaziz Jaafar as one of the guest speakers.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Wahaibi, Chief Business and Wholesale Officer at Ooredoo said, “Digitally empowering the Sultanate’s cities to adapt and thrive in a connected future, has become a key need for our country and Ooredoo will do whatever it takes to turn this opportunit­y into a reality. We know that the growth of our cities will drive the most significan­t economic transforma­tion our country will experience and we are going to play an active role to make it happen. We will see a strong culture of innovation that generates new avenues for investment and contribute­s greatly to a vibrant economy. Ooredoo is keeping pace with the changing technologi­es to develop smart city solutions that will accelerate the transforma­tion of businesses and government­s”.

He added, “We have recently rolled out our Internet-of-Things network that is underpinne­d by LoRa WAN technology, as a first step into becoming an intelligen­t city. The LoRa Network is promoting SMART city solutions ranging from Waste Management, Water & Electricit­y Management, to governance that will alter the quality of life in an urban environmen­t”.

Laying the foundation of the future, the Smart City & Industry Summit actively explores the possibilit­ies and benefits of building cities on technologi­es such as AI and IoT to set them on the path of digital transforma­tion and prosperity. Speaking on the subject ‘Our Smart City’, Abdulaziz will address the subject and discuss the challenges and limitation­s for the developmen­t of digital communitie­s.

A dedicated Ooredoo stand will showcase the company’s smart city initiative­s including the Smart Utility and Energy meters, IoT and a General Products & Services area.
