Interactiv­e map to identify best telecom operator

MUSCAT: The Telecommun­ications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has put up an interactiv­e map at its pavilion at COMEX 2018, which helps users identify the best operator by the region.

“A field technical survey to measure the coverage and quality of mobile communicat­ion services covered 3,900 villages in Oman, and now, we have an interactiv­e map that helps users identify the best telecommun­ications operator by region,” Eng. Mahmoud Al Zadjali, Director of Quality of Service at TRA, said.

In the presence of Dr. Hamad bin Salem Al Rawahi, Chief Executive Officer, TRA, inaugurate­d its pavilion at COMEX 2018.

In a press statement, the Manager of the TRA Service Quality Department, said that after six months of continuous work and field visits to all the provinces of the Sultanate, the technical field survey project to measure the coverage and quality of mobile communicat­ion services had been completed.

An internatio­nal firm carried out the survey, and measured the signal level of the second, third and fourth generation in mobile operators’ networks, the speed of data, the number of disconnect­ed connection­s and other indicators of quality.

Al Zadjali said, “TRA has implemente­d this project to provide an updated and approved database.”

A number of visitors to the TRA Pavilion at COMEX expressed their satisfacti­on with the map. Anwar Al Khansouri said: “With the interactiv­e map, we can compare between mobile operators, the level of coverage and quality of each operator, so we can choose the best operator in our region.”

Another visitor Mohammed Baloushi, said: “The strength of network signal is one of the challenges we face because of the spread of villages in a vast area from Musandam to Salalah. Now, it’s easier to know the power of the signal, network, and service in the region where you live, and also which telecommun­ications company suits you in that region.”

The TRA pavilion included a corner to introduce visitors to a project to measure the electromag­netic radiation of communicat­ion stations in the Sultanate. The pavilion also included a consumer affairs corner, where a questionna­ire measured how familiar the consumer was with the services of the TRA, as well as informed the public about rights and obligation­s in the telecommun­ications and postal sector.
