Palestine territorie­s healthcare to be discussed at WHO meeting

GENEVA: Deliberati­ons of the 71st World Health Assembly began in Geneva yesterday with participat­ion of as more as 194 member states at the World Health Organisati­on (WHO).

The Sultanate’s delegation to the meetings that will continue till Saturday, was led by Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, Minister of Health.

The meetings discuss the WHO work programme for the period from 2019 to 2023, public health preparedne­ss and response, as well as a report by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu­s, WHO Director-General on the health situation in the Occupied Palestinia­n territorie­s including East Jerusalem and the Occupied Syrian Golan, as well as providing support and technical assistance related to the health of the population in the occupied territorie­s.

The meeting will discuss the report of the 71st World Health Assembly, the reports of the committees and a number of technical health issues, such as global work on patient safety in order to achieve comprehens­ive and effective health coverage, the Geneva Health Forum 2018, and the World Conference and the World Cancer Summit 2020, scheduled to be hosted by the Sultanate.

Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sa’eedi, will chair the Sultanate’s delegation in the 5th Technical Consultati­ve meeting of the Arab Health Ministers, as well as meeting of health ministers of the member states at the NonAligned Movement (NAM) on the sidelines of the 71st World Health Assembly.
