Minister of Manpower takes part in global labour meet
GENEVA: The Sultanate is currently taking part in the 107th session of the International Labour Conference being held in Geneva in Switzerland.
The Sultanate’s delegation is led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower.
The delegation includes representatives of the tripartite stakeholders (the Ministry of Manpower, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and the General Federation of Oman Trade Unions (GFOTU).
The conference discussed reports of the Chairperson of the Governing Body and of the Director-General, information and reports on the application of conventions and recommendations, effective development cooperation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, elimination of discrimination in business world and the issues related to the strategic objective of social dialogue.
A meeting was held among the GCC labour ministers and the ILO Director General to discuss the support provided by the ILO to the GCC states through training and employment programmes.
The meeting stressed the importance of organising seminars about the future jobs in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
On the sidelines of the conference, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, met with the Jordanian Minister of Labour and Moroccan Minister of Labour and Vocational Merger.
He discussed with them means of enhancing bilateral cooperation and sharing experiences in education and vocational training field, as well as future skills needed by the labour market.
