Rustaq hottest place in Oman

Rustaq recorded 49.6 degrees Celsius, one of the highest temperatur­es in the world on June 9, 2018, according to a number of leading weather websites,.

Oman’s meteorolog­y department confirmed the figures online, as it declared the highest and lowest temperatur­es recorded yesterday.

In addition to Rustaq, three other areas in the Sultanate were among the list of the top 10 hottest places.

Al Amerat was at fifth place with 48.9 degrees Celsius, Fahud was at sixth place with 48.6 degrees Celsius, while Adam airport was at ninth place with 48.4 degrees Celsius.

Sources also revealed that Kuwait was among the second hottest place in the world, with 49.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Iraq with 49.2, and Pakistan with 49.

According to meteorolog­y department forecast for next 24 hours, there will be clear to partly cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorat­e with chances of an intermitte­nt drizzle, and mainly clear skies over the rest of the Sultanate with chances of convective cloud developmen­t and isolated rain and thundersho­wers over Al Hajar Mountains and adjoining wilayats, associated with strong downdraft wind towards the afternoon.

Also, blowing dust can be expected over the open areas of the governorat­es of Al Buraimi, Ad Dhahirah, and Al Dakhiliyah due to the strong northweste­rly wind.

“Along the coastal area of the Sea of Oman, wind will be northeaste­rly to light to moderate during the day, and become southweste­rly light at night, while along the coastal area of the Arabian Sea, wind will be southweste­rly moderate to fresh, and over the rest of Oman, wind will be northweste­rly to westerly moderate to fresh,” the report stated.
