MUSCAT: Oman Tourism College’s (OTC) ‘Summer Internship Programme’ recently commenced providing experience for undergraduate students at some of the biggest companies and events related to the travel and tourism in the industry.

A total of 135 placements have already been confirmed. Some of the college’s first placements recently saws even aspiring industry professionals employ their skills at an event where Emirates airline celebrated 25 years of service in Oman, landing the first A380 to ever grace the Sultanate’s skies.

Dr Abdulkarim Al Mughairi, Dean of OTC, said, “Over the years we have extended our partnerships across the tourism and hospitality sector to secure future placements for students at leading organisations to enhance their proficiency, employability, and performance as economic assets. We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders towards achieving the goals set by Tanfeedh, notably the creation of 21,000 jobs by 2020. As such, we have a vast number of impending employment prospects and require educated candidates to fulfil their roles. Our college is equipped with the right procedures, facilities, and programmes required to support national-level objectives in Oman.”

He added, “Our internships provide motivated talent with the chance to build and refine their skills during the summer break as the world of work approaches, thus I encourage industry stakeholders to get in-touch and explore the potential for future collaboration with OTC and the mutual benefits delivered through internship programmes.”

Oman Airport Handling Company and Oman Aviation Group have committed to providing internships, welcoming students to support the execution of events and enhance their skills by working with established industry professionals. After Emirates touched down on July 1, OTC students were privileged to meet and greet VIPs before networking amongst key industry players.

In addition to experiential learning through internships, seminars, and other competitive activities, OTC delivers a comprehensive suite of educational mediums for students, including world-class online resources. The college recently provided students with access to Lobster Ink, the online learning platform of choice for the global hospitality industry. Other critical resources and experiences are supplied through OTC’s partnership with Dublin Institute of Technology in the Republic of Ireland, as well as awarding bodies such as High Field and the RED global Foundation.
