20 teams from public and private sector set to compete in ‘Ooredoo Cup’
MUSCAT: Ooredoo, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports Affairs, announced the up-coming kick-off for the 17th National Futsal tournament, now called ‘The Ooredoo Cup’, at a press conference held at the Sundus Rotana Hotel.
Running from July 29 until August 15, this year’s tournament will see 20 teams from ministries, associations, and companies compete against each other in what are set to be action-packed five-aside football matches at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Baushar.
Raed Mohammed Dawood, director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said: “Ooredoo believes in solidifying ongoing partnerships between the public and private sector. This time the partnership manifests itself in sports. The power of sports and its role in instilling teamwork, determination and integrity as well as health, is key to both personal and professional development. This fun and friendly competition will allow players to build long-lasting bonds and skills, which they will carry with them for years to come.”
The teams participating in the 17th Ooredoo Cup include the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, as well as other military and civil authorities in Oman. The top three winning teams will receive OMR2,000, OMR1,500, and OMR1,200 respectively. Other awards will also be handed out to the ‘Best Goal Keeper’, ‘Man of The Match’, ‘Scorer of the Tournament’, ‘Best Coach’, ‘Exemplary Team’, and ‘Best Supporters’, with winners receiving cash prizes.
