Haya Water completes Al Ansab STP Phase II

MUSCAT: Haya Water celebrated the completion of Phase II of the Al Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) expansion moving to the last and the third phase, which is expected to be finished in 2022. The expansion of the STP is an attempt to keep up with the increasing demands of the wastewater service as a result of the remarkable urbanisati­on in Muscat.

Eng Khalid bin Hassan Al Lawati, Acting Projects general manager at Haya Water announced at the launching ceremony which held at the Crown Plaza, Madinat Al Irfan that the plant is equipped with state of art technology which is the membrane reactors technology known as MBR.

This plant is considered to be one of the largest in the world that operates using this technology. Furthermor­e, the project was completed three million hours without lost time injuries.

He added that the capacity of Al Ansab STP after Phase II reaches 125,000 cubic meters per day.

Eng. Khalid Hassan Al-Lawati confirmed that the actual operation of this STP has already started and its quality is very high. He also assured that this station’s capacity is sufficient to absorb the wastewater that comes through the connected networks to the STP or through the yellow tankers which no longer have to wait to offload the wastewater.

It is worth mentioning that the plant, which was built and operated in 2010 accommodat­ed 57,300 cubic metres per day and the capacity of the Al Ansab Plant, will increase to 140,000 cubic meters per day after the completion of phase III by the end of 2022.

Haya Water projects in the Wilayat of Bausher, which are extended from Al Hamryah roundabout in Muttrah to the Muscat Wave, through Hilat Al Sadd, Al Wattayah, Al Qurum, Madinat Al Ilam, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Al Sarouj, Al Khuwair, Al Ghubra, Al Azaiba, Bausher, Gala and Al Ansab, are considered the biggest projects which have been executed by the company.

The total length of the sewage networks in the Wilayat of Bausher in the completed and progressed projects is about 660 km. This project has connected around 11,565 units to the sewage networks. In addition, the treated water distributi­on networks length is about 87 km.

As regards the future projects in this Wilayat, the total length of the wastewater network is about 232 km and it is expected to connect 12,203 residentia­l units and government­al and commercial properties. The treated water network will also expand to 23 km in 2028.
