E-Commerce meet kicks off in Salalah

SALALAH: Deliberati­ons of the 6th Internatio­nal e-Commerce Conference began at Salalah Crown Plaza hotel on Sunday under the auspices of Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Bakri, Minister of Manpower.

The two-day conference, themed “The e-Consumer”, is being organised by Oman Chamber of Commerce and In- dustry (OCCI) in cooperatio­n with the Middle East Consultanc­y and Studies Centre.

Eng. Hussain bin Ma’ayouf Al Bathari, Chairman of OCCI branch in Dhofar said that the e-commerce has become very important as it provides many opportunit­ies for trans-boundary trade. e-Commerce is also a new tool that has changed the traditiona­l economy systems on the local, regional and internatio­nal levels.

On his part, Dr. Ali bin Suhail Tabook, CEO of Middle East Consultanc­y and Studies Centre said that the conference covers a number of themes, such as defining the e-consumer, the legal aspects in protecting the e-consumer, the Sultanate’s experience in e-commerce and in protecting the e-consumer, the efficiency of the existing legislatio­ns, the economic dimension for consumer data in e-commerce, the e-consumer through e-commerce and the consumer protection in e-commerce deals.

The conference also reviews the local and internatio­nal experience­s in the field of e-marketing. The conference targets profession­al, academicia­ns and officials with good experience in IT and e-consumer.

The opening of the conference was attended by Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, a number of undersecre­taries and officials.
