MUSCAT: Mohsin Haider Darwish’s (MHD) Automotive Division is the proud dealer of few of the most popular auto brands in the world and holds the dealership of the well-known automotive pioneer, Volvo. A company revered for its after-sales service, customer support and beneficial deals on all their automobiles, MHD recently introduced a brand new model of Volvo to the Oman market – the Volvo XC40.

After the great success of the Volvo XC90 & XC60, the new XC40 sets a new standard in its segment in terms of design, connectivity and safety technology. This compact SUV born from Swedish creativity marks the company’s first entry into the compact SUV segment and has successfully also been named the 2018 European Car of the Year ahead of the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.

The new powertrain is the first three-cylinder engine in the company’s 91-year history. The all-new 1.5 litres, three-cylinder, directinjection petrol engine was developed in-house using the same modular design as Volvo’s fourcylinder Drive-E engines. The three-cylinder powertrain comes with a manual six-speed transmission. In line with Volvo Cars’ strategy to continue improving economies of scale, the engine will roll off the same production lines as the company’s four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Furthermore, the new three-cylinder powertrain has been deliberately designed for integration into Twin Engine plug-in hybrid cars.

XC40 gives customers the liberty to choose between different trim levels, including a base, the launch variants Momentum and R-Design, plus the luxurious new Inscription level. The Inscription trim offers exterior styling choices with 18”, 19” or 20” rims, unique skid-plates, side window and grill mesh chrome, plus model-specific car colours. Inside, Inscription adds a newly designed crystal gear knob and the attractive Driftwood deco, which Volvo first introduced in its award-winning XC60 mid-size SUV.

XC40 customers can further express themselves with accessories like the 21” Black Diamond Cut alloy wheels and the new accessory styling kit that offers brushed stainless steel skid-plates and integrated dual tailpipes.

The XC40 is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new compact modular vehicle architecture (CMA), which will underpin all upcoming cars in the 40 Series, including fully electrified vehicles. The XC40 is also the first Volvo to come with a car-sharing feature, enabled via Volvo’s digital key technology and its connected services platform Volvo On Call. XC40 owners can simply share their car with family and friends without having to hand over a physical key.

Safety and driver assistance features on the XC40 include Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off-Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and the 360° Camera that helps drivers manoeuvre their car into tight parking spaces.

The XC40 also offers ingenious interior design and storage ideas with more functional storage space in the doors and under the seats, a special space for phones including inductive charging, a foldout hook for small bags, plus a removable waste bin in the tunnel console.

“We are certain that the new Volvo XC40 will set a new benchmark in the compact SUV segment in Oman. The XC40 speaks class. When on the road, it commands attention with its bold, futuristic and youthful design,” said David Aziz, CEO Automotive, MHD. “Its various trims levels, from the base model to the premium, give customers a wider range of options to choose from. We are certain that this vehicle will generate the same sensational response in the Oman market as it has in other parts of the world.”
