Al Sunaidy attends conference for health insurance

MUSCAT: Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), attended the 12th Middle East Conference for Health Insurance being hosted in the Sultanate from September 23 to 24, and organised by the Middle East Insurance Review.
The Sultanate is hosting this conference for the second consecutive time; it is considered a significant international event in the international insurance market. The conference comes under the subject of “Successful Strategies for Applying Compulsory Health Insurance” and will see wide international participation that will enable the viewing of various experiences of applying health insurance through the papers presented during the conference.
This conference coincides with the preparations in the Sultanate to introduce health insurance in the private sector and for visitors; hence, it is considered an opportunity to view future visions of health insurance, and to present supervisory and regulative roles for ensuring high quality health services that would develop the industry. The conference will also enable benefitting from the great and progressive local and international progress in quality standards, information security and data confidentiality, and viewing organisations and governments’ samples, experiences, challenges and lessons learned during applying health insurance.
Hosting this international conference organised by the Middle East Insurance Review is considered a great opportunity to learn and benefit from international and regional experiences on the regulation of the health insurance market, which now represents one of the means to provide appropriate health care, and thus, the ability to upgrade the quality of services.
It is worth mentioning that the average growth of health insurance products reached 26 per cent during the last five years, and in addition to this, the share of health insurance acquires 30 per cent of total insurance premiums.
