MUSCAT: Showcasing the richness of Arabian culture and the evolution of local lifestyles in celebration of World Photography Day 2018, Mysk Al Mouj kicked off its #PicturePerfectMysk photography contest.

Connecting with talent from across Oman, the hotel shortlisted five entries for their creative prowess, naming Sanak Roy Choudhury the winner with an outstanding collection of photos, including breathtaking shots from Ghoroub, a rooftop terrace overlooking Oman’s largest private marina, as well as an aerial wonder descending through the hotel’s main atrium.

Mysk Al Mouj, owned by Golden Group Holding and part of the Global Hotel Alliance, launched the online competition via its social media channels to deliver an initiative that would bring photography lovers together in capturing the venue with an array of creative techniques.

Shafik Alaaeddine, General Manager of Mysk Al Mouj, said, “International calendar days are about celebrating different communities and creativity from around the world; what better than to bring imaginative folk from local communities together on World Photography Day with the mission of realising the splendour of Mysk Al Mouj through a single picture. We welcome the talent of locals in many capacities and are pleased to have interacted with a new batch of photographers which we will no-doubt work with in future as we embark upon new roads of discovery together. We congratulate Sanak and look forward to exploring new creative prospects in the future”.

The first leg of the competition saw Mysk Al Mouj’s online call for creative people echo across Oman, with photographers being asked to tag the hotel in some of their best images for a chance to win the #PicturePerfectMysk contest. The five shortlisted contestants selected for their dazzling display of camera work and digital artistry were hosted onsite for World Photography Day on September, 19 where they spent an afternoon contemplating their new environment and taking photos for the online voting phase which determined the winner.

Alaaeddine added: “Creative engagements with local communities is one approach towards enticing the global tourism market and encouraging travellers to select Oman as their destination of choice. As we unveil a whole new travel experience for locals and visitors at Mysk Al Mouj, we have introduced the highly soughtafter Mysk Discovery loyalty programme, which allows guests to indulge in upgrades based on the number of nights they spend at Mysk and GHA branded venues, with free subscription and rewards at over 500 hotels, resorts and palaces worldwide”.

Having successfully captured the essence of Mysk Al Mouj, Sanak Roy Choudhury will be presented with a full board staycation including a bespoke dining experience at the venue’s Pepper Restaurant, with access to the leading leisure amenities and fitness facilities. Sanak is an Indian photo artist and Nikon School Speaker, previously featured in National Geographic with over 100 awards reported to-date for his work. Interested parties can find his portfolio on Instagram @SanakRoy.

Sanak Roy Choudhury said: “The competition was a fantastic opportunity to extend my résumé whilst capturing the intricate beauty of Mysk Al Mouj’s contemporary take on Arabian culture. As a venue overlooking Almouj Marina and thus the Sea of Oman the views from the rooftop terrace were amongst some of the ‘must captures’ I identified whilst onsite; which, I’m pleased to say contributed to my success in the competition. I thank Mysk Al Mouj for the initiative and look forward to booking my stay”.
