Technical team reviews sample of address data

MUSCAT: The technical team of the Unified Addressing System held a meeting on Monday at the premises of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The progress in work of the project and a sample of the addressing data were reviewed by the members. The challenges with data input, monitoring procedures and quality control were also discussed during the meeting.

Members also discussed results of the second meeting of the Unified Addressing System design, including the operational model for the Unified Addressing System, as well as roles and responsibilities of all those involved in its regular operation and maintenance, and the relevant organizations.

The work plans for software applications for addressing and naming of streets were also presented during the meeting, and the minutes of the third meeting of 2018 were also ratified.

The Unified Addressing System project aims at numbering buildings and establishments, standardising street names, keeping in pace with the rapid growth by simplifying the addresses. This makes movement within the city and identification of places easier for citizens, residents and visitors of the Sultanate. It also provides accurate data of a particular place and time.

The project is part of the strategic objectives of developing a secure and integrated structure that helps in data acquisition and exchange, in order to achieve functional integration and coordination between different organisations. It is also a step forward to create an advanced investment environment, thanks to the availability of geographical navigation information provided by the system.
