Play on Indian poet Subramania Bharathi enthrals audience
MUSCAT: Bharathi Yaar? is a theatrical extravaganza dramatising key events in the life of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi (1882 - 1921) using theatre, recitation, dance (folk and classical), videography, to showcase the richness of the literature, poems and songs of Bharathi was staged in Al Falaj hotel in Muscat on September 20. This is the first time that the play has been staged outside the shores of India.
Renowned poet and writer Isaikkavi Ramanan had written the dialogues to a script collaborated by Ramanan with SBS Raman who had directed the play. Veena Vidwan Baradwaj Raman, son of SBS Raman (and grandson of Veena Vidwan S. Balachander) had arranged the music for the play. The cast stars included Isaikkavi Ramanan, Dharma Raman, Vijay Siva and others. The show in Muscat featured local talent too.
The show received a rapturous response from the audience following an exhilarating performance by the artistes. Isaikkavi Ramanan, the protagonist, who played the role of Mahakavi Subbramania Bharathi, mesmerised the audience when he delivered his dialogues/musicals with a panache.
All support casts, including actors chosen from Muscat and other technical support staff played their part to perfection leaving the audience enthralled by the experience. It was an evening to remember for the theatre loving audience in Muscat.
