Nama Group honours staff volunteering under ‘Wiyakum Programme’
SALALAH: Nama Group (NG) concluded Staff Volunteering Competition, part of Wiyakum Programme projects, as part of its continuous commitment to encourage voluntary work and instil a culture of volunteer initiatives in the Group’s employees.
The closing ceremony of the competition was held under the patronage of Eng. Ali Issa Shamas, CEO of Dhofar Power Company (DPC), a member of Nama Group, in the presence of a number of officials from the Group in Dhofar Governorate.
This competition is one of the Group’s sustainability policy initiatives, which aims at highlighting the value of volunteer work amongst employees and encouraging them to build sustainable development projects, as part of their contribution to the local communities and National Economy. In the past few years, Nama Group has developed its staff competencies in the volunteering fields through specific training courses as well as directing them to join voluntary activities in collaboration with local institutions.
During the closing ceremony, “Creative Team”, from Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), a member of Nama Group, was announced as the winner of the competition on the project of generating irrigation water, implemented in Dhofar Governorate. The project is all about innovating an efficient solar powered device to transform the moisture in the air into water for irrigation purposes and confront desertification, besides producing electricity for daily uses. Based on the project benefits, the team was invited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to participate in one of its activities, whereas Nama Group will develop the project as a sustainable enterprise.
In addition, the Group honoured “Al Nour Team”of Majan Electricity Company (MJEC), a member of Nama Group, for conducting a number of voluntary awareness projects, utilising solar energy systems. Also, OETC’s “Takatuf Team”was honoured for its welfare initiatives to help lowincomes families.
To enhance the concept of the contest, a number of Nama Group staff participated in the afforestation initiative held at Dhofar University to plant a group of local trees (frankincense, figs and cacti). Through this initiative, Nama Group seeks to raise awareness amongst students about the importance of sustainable volunteering. The Group always encourages the Omani youth to join and take leadership involuntary initiatives, as well as building sustainable development projects all over the Sultanate.
It is worth mentioning that the Group has allocated a special day for its employees to participate in any voluntary work in Oman, as reflected in the competition objectives. The contest was considered as a great incentive for employees to take part within diverse voluntary projects.
Nama Group thanked all the participating teams, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs for their efforts to achieve initiatives of Wiyakum Programme.
