Oman Olympic Committee holds board meeting

MUSCAT: The Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its third meeting this year under the chairmanship of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni, OOC Board Vice-Chairman.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed a number of items on the agenda, the main topic of discussion was the resignation of Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad Al Zubair, former chairman, and the appointment of Sheikh Saif bin Hilal Al Hosni to the post of acting Board chairman until the convening of the Extraordinary General Assembly and election of the chairman according to the OOC’s statutes.
The OOC Board members expressed their utmost appreciation to Al Zubair for his efforts during his tenure as Chairman. They cited the efforts taken to develop operational systems and activate events and various programmes under the theme ‘Sport for Development’, including the setting up of the Oman Dispute Resolution and Arbitration for Sport Committee. They also pointed out launching of sports marketing, through which OOC signed sponsorship deals in support of the sports associations and committees with a number of major companies of the private sector. Sheikh Khalid also laid the foundation of the Oman Olympic Academy, whose strategy and statutes were duly approved by various local and international organisations, which further strengthened OOC’s presence at the regional, continental and international levels, which led to the nomination of Sheikh Khalid Al Zubair as member of the International Olympic Committee.
In accordance with the OOC’s statutes, Sheikh Saif Al Hosni was nominated as acting Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee until the convening of the Extraordinary General Meeting where the OOC Board Chairman will be elected.
The meeting also approved of the date of convening the Extraordinary General Meeting to elect OOC Board Chairman as spelled out in the rules and regulations applicable within Oman Olympic Committee.
