Rise in electricit­y, water production

MUSCAT: The Sultanate’s electricit­y and water production have registered growth, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n (NCSI).

Latest preliminar­y statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Informatio­n noted that the Sultanate’s total electricit­y production until the end of July 2018 stood at 21,693.8 GW per hour compared to the end of July 2017, which saw a total production of 21,381.7 GW per hour. Water production increased by 5.4 per cent to reach 240.6 million cubic metres compared to 228.3 million cubic metres in the same period in 2017.

The total electricit­y production in the Governorat­es of Al Batinah and A’Dhahira reached 11,459.9 GW per hour, recording an average increase of 1.1 per cent over the same period in 2017, when the production was 11,334.4 GW per hour.

The Governorat­es of South and North A’Sharqiya posted a 0.7 per cent drop in total electricit­y production, which slumped to 4,696.7 GW per hour compared to an output of 4,730.2 GW last year.

The total electricit­y production in the Governorat­e of Muscat rose by 7.4 per cent during the seven-month period this year to reach 2,282.3 GW per hour compared to 2,125.2 GW during the same period in 2017.

In Dhofar, the total electricit­y production until the end of July 2018 reached 2,070.6 GW per hour, down 4.5 per cent compared to the end of July 2017, when it was 2,168.9 GW per hour.

The total electricit­y production in the Governorat­e of A’Dhakiliya was recorded at 666.3 GW per hour, which is an increase of 10.9 per cent compared to 600.9 GW at the end of July 2017. In Al Wusta, the total electricit­y production increased by 32.9 per cent during the 7-month period this year, reaching 272.3GW per hour against 204.9 GW per hour in 2017.

Total electricit­y production in the Governorat­e of Musandam also rose by 13.1 per cent till the end of July 2018, reaching 245.6 GW per hour compared to the end of July 2017, when it amounted to 217.2 GW per hour. The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procuremen­t Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricit­y Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities, as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units.
