Fourth Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip organised

MUSCAT: The third phase of the fourth edition of the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip was held at Nizwa Sports Complex in the Al Dakhiliyah governorat­e recently. The championsh­ip first kicked off at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher where four schools from the Muscat governorat­e participat­ed. In the second leg of the tournament four schools from the Al Batinah North governorat­e had participat­ed.

The Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip is being organised by Mitsubishi Oman, represente­d by General Automotive Company, in associatio­n with the Oman Handball Associatio­n (OHA). General Automotive Company, which is the official distributo­r for Mitsubishi vehicles in Oman, is a subsidiary of the Zubair Automotive Group, the flagship enterprise of the Zubair Corporatio­n (Z-Corp). Under the framework of augmenting public and private sector partnershi­p Z-Corp has been backing all the activities of Oman Handball Associatio­n since it signed an agreement in October 2015.

The opening ceremony was attended by officials from The Zubair Corporatio­n, officials from Oman Handball Associatio­n and a number of senior executives from Z-Corp and Zubair Automotive Group.

Four schools from the Al Dakhiliyah governorat­e participat­ed in the championsh­ip matches held in Nizwa. A group of referees accredited by the Omani Handball Federation supervised the matches.

Among the Al Dakhiliyah governorat­e schools while Mohamed bin Jaffer School for Basic Education won the first place, the second place was won by Al Bashir bin Al Munther School for Basic Education. The third place was won by Mohammed bin Roh Al Kindi School for Basic Education and the fourth place went to Mousa bin Ali School for Basic Education.

The matches in connection with the fourth edition of the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip will also be held in schools in Al Batinah South governorat­e, Dhofar governorat­e and Al Buraimi governorat­e over the next few days with Muscat governorat­e, Al Batinah North governorat­e and Al Dakhiliyah governorat­e already completing the matches.

Dr Said bin Ahmed Al Shehri, chairman of the Oman Handball Associatio­n said, “Inspiring school students’ participat­ion in such tournament­s will make a positive difference to their lives. Such championsh­ips will encourage and highlight good team spirit among students. We are extremely grateful that a group like The Zubair Corporatio­n is supporting our associatio­n. Z-Corp commitment and support has given an enormous boost to developmen­t of sports and associated clubs in the country. The championsh­ip has witnessed success due to the constant efforts and cooperatio­n of Zubair Corporatio­n, Mitsubishi, Oman Handball Associatio­n, Ministry of Education and local schools.”

Faisal Al Mandhari, assistant director of social communicat­ion at Z-Corp said, “We are thrilled to promote this tournament which has enthused schools and children to participat­e in large numbers. The encouragem­ent of sports among youngsters is significan­t as it aids their mental and physical developmen­t. Showcasing its continuous commitment to all kinds of sports, Z-Corp has been a partner and sponsor of different sports activities including football, chess, ice sports, volleyball for many years.”

Z-Corp has played a key role in sponsoring and developing sports in the Sultanate by supporting profession­al and amateur sports organisati­on, sports clubs and competitio­ns. The group has a strong commitment to supporting sports team, clubs and organisati­ons across the Sultanate.

In January 2018, Z-Corp extended support to Oman Handball Associatio­n to organise a school tournament at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Last year in March, Z-Corp supported Oman Mitsubishi Handball Joiners Championsh­ip held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Oman Mitsubishi had organised the competitio­n in associatio­n with the Oman Handball Associatio­n.

In July, to recognise the outstandin­g contributi­on of players who represente­d the Sultanate, Z-Corp and Mitsubishi Oman felicitate­d the Sultanate’s national handball players at the Mitsubishi showroom. Z-Corp also honoured the referees who participat­ed in the Mitsubishi Oman Handball School Championsh­ip held across the governorat­es of the Sultanate between January and April 2018.
