Medical conference on ‘Managing Acute Breathless Child’ held

MUSCAT: Continuing their Medical Education Programme, Muscat Family Physicians’ Group recently organised a meeting on yet another very common problem doctors face in their clinic “Managing Acute Breathless Child” Dr Askar Kukkadi, Consultant, Paediatric­s, Starcare Hospital, Seeb was the speaker.

In the beginning of his presentati­on Dr Askar mentioned “How Small Children are vulnerable in comparison with the adults. Sudden Breathless­ness in a child poses danger to their life. It is a serious condition requiring urgent and immediate action. Any delay can be dangerous”.

He then enumerated different common condition, both Respirator­y & non-respirator­y, which can cause of Acute Breathless­ness in a Child. He emphasised importance of educating parents and public in general about these conditions.

He further explained how to examine the child, what signs to look for, what investigat­ions are needed to come to a diagnosis. He also cautioned about what to do and what one should not do.

He concluded his presentati­on by explaining the way different conditions should be treated.

Dr Askar then presented a few cases which he had encountere­d in his practice recently.

The presentati­on was indeed a very informativ­e, educative and practical. Dr Askar with his skills and expertise made it very simple, interestin­g and interactiv­e. All the 50+ doctors attending the meeting were continuous­ly involved by Dr Askar.

The Medical Conference was held at Hotel Al Falaj on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. It was attended by around 50 doctors practicing in Muscat Governorat­e. This included Paediatric­ians, Internists, Ayurvedic, Homeopaths and of course many Family physicians of the group. The event was sponsored by CIPLA – A Pharma company leaders in producing Inhalers for the Breathless patients.

In closing remarks Dr Sanjay Dalal – Co-ordinator “Muscat Family Physicians” said “This seminar was held to refresh the knowledge of the doctors about this common problem”. He promised to carry on with more such conference­s. “We are proud that our CME programme is the longest running programme organised by any private health establishm­ent. It is education for ALL medical practition­ers who wants to join. It’s free.
