Environment issues integral part of Oman’s development planning: Toobi
Arab Document for Environment Protection and Development promulgated
MUSCAT: The Arab Document for the Environment Protection and Development was promulgated at Majlis Oman in Muscat on Tuesday.
The document provides for integrating balance between environment protection and the needs for development by ensuring balance between the social, economic, natural resources preservation and environmental elements.
Balance
The ceremony for promulgation of the document was held under the patronage of Mohammed bin Salim Al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs.
He said that the Sultanate sought to integrate this balance since the beginning of the Renaissance. He pointed out that environmental considerations are integrated in the planning and implementation of the development projects.
He added that coordination is maintained among the public organisations, the parliaments and councils to enhance the performance of the development projects in all fields to achieve the required balance between the needs of development and maintaining environment and natural resources safety. Dr. Meshaal bin Fahm Al Salami, Chairman of the Arab Parliament said in a speech that promulgating the Arab Document for Environment Protection and Development embodies the Sultanate’s interest in environment preservation and protection.
He added that the Sultanate has good experience in drafting environmental laws, policies and programmes.
“The Sultanate is among the top 10 countries in the world in terms of being interested in environment. It is also the first Arab country to allocate award for environment protection namely the Sultan Qaboos Award for Environment Preservation,” he added.
The launching ceremony of the document was attended by Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, honourable members of the State Council and members of Majlis Al Shura, as well as undersecretaries and members of the Arab Parliament.
Participants at the 18th annual conference of the Arab Administrative Development Organisation (ARADO) sent a cable of thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
In their cable, they expressed their utmost thanks to the Sultanate’s government for the warm welcome and generous hospitality.
They pointed out that the conference witnessed presenting and discussing a set of theoretical and practical themes that aim at contributing to stimulating governments and public administrations in the Arab countries for utilisation of their potentials and capabilities towards adaptation with requirements of globalisation for improving status of Arab economies that achieve sustainable development goals 2030.
