KIMS launches Manage Diabetes Package

-

MUSCAT: Diabetes is a common disease these days and has been rising more rapidly the world over. It is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke, and many other conditions. In 2016, an estimated 1.6 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes.

Almost half of all deaths attributable to high blood glucose occur before the age of 70 years.

Around 425 million people have diabetes in the world and more than 39 million people in the MENA Region which is expected to rise to 67 million by 2045. According to International Diabetes Federation (IDF), around 367,700 cases of diabetes were reported in Oman in 2017, which is roughly around 10.7 per cent.

Keeping the above as backdrop, KIMS Oman Hospital (KIMS) has launched a Manage Diabetes Package especially for those who are already affected by the disease.

The package basically covers a 13-month plan including 5 consultations each with a physician and dietician, one major and two minor health checks.

Patients can subscribe to the package by paying an annual subscription upfront.

Dr Shashiraj Eswarappa, Consultant Internal Medicine and Chief Medical Superintendent at KOH say, “Diabetes can be treated and its consequences avoided or delayed with diet, physical activity, medication and regular screening and treatment for complications.

"Healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight and avoiding tobacco use are ways to prevent or delay the onset of Type-2 diabetes.”
