ISG conducts Annual Sports Meet
MUSCAT: Indian School Al Ghubra conducted the 28th Annual Sports Meet on November 29, at Al Amal Sports Club, Ghala. Dr Sebastian Thomas - Member, School Management Committee was the chief guest for the event.
The Sports Captain - Girls, Eshayat Fathima Riyas delivered the welcome speech and the chief guest was welcomed in an ecofriendly way. Dr Thomas took the salute as the contingents of the four houses - Nizwa, Muscat, Sur and Sohar – marched past, led by the Sports Captain, Boys - Atul Acharya, and Sports Captain Girls. It was followed by the Peace Run in which the national and international level players of ISG marched by as the spectators acknowledged them with a thunderous applause. Atul administered the oath after which the chief guest declared the meet open.
The 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m open races of the girls and boys under various categories showcased the hardwork, dedication and skill of the athletes which in turn made the spectators excitedly cheer for them. The most thrilling events were the 4x100 m relay races of the four houses.
The colourful Kite drill display by the boys and the rhythmic movement display using elastic bands to a popular tune by the girls of classes 6, 7 and 8 added splendour to the event. The highlight of the event was the Inter-House Neuromuscular Coordination Movement Competition in which 15 boys and 15 girls displayed a set of 8 exercises.
In the prize distribution ceremony that followed, the winners at the CBSE National Swimming Championship held at Ranchi were felicitated. Team ISG were the first runners up in the Under 19 Category. It was a milestone in the history of ISG when K.S. Pooja bagged two gold medals for 50m breaststroke and 50m butterflystroke. She won two silver medals for 50m and 100m Freestyle. She also won the bronze medal for 200m individual medley. The athletes K.S. Pooja, Vaishnavi Arunodaya Gujjar, Aidaphi Uppal, Ira Bharadwaj and Bhavya Kapur won bronze medals in the 4x 100m freestyle relay and 4 x 100m medley relay.
The winners of the various events were presented with medals and trophies by Dr Thomas and were congratulated by the Principal, Papri Ghosh and Vice Principal, G. Sreekumar. Muscat House was declared winner of the march past and the Neuromuscular Coordination Movement Competition. The students of Nizwa House were ecstatic for they won the Overall House Trophy for two consecutive years.
Sunil K., Convener, School Management Committee presented a memento to the chief guest. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Sports Captain Girls, The Beating Retreat Ceremony in which the Head Boy, Head Girl, Vice Head Boy and Vice Head Girl hand over the school flag to the chief guest.
