Composite Pipe beat Enhance Oman to clinch cricket title
SOHAR: The Elite Paper Corporate Cricket Cup 2018, organised by Indian Social Club, Sohar was conducted on December 7, in Sohar. This was the 9th Edition of the Corporate Cricket tournament being conducted by ISC, Sohar. A total of 36 corporate companies involving a total of 432 players participated in this year’s edition, which was sponsored by Elite Paper Product a sister concern of Oman Porcelain Company SAOC.
The event was well supported by Shamal Plastics, Al Nahdha group, Jindal Shadeed, Oman Oasis water, Maysal water, Badr al Samaa hospital, Lifeline hospital and Ibn Sahara Sports company.
The event organised in two adjacent grounds of Naidul Arabi Club, Sallan in Sohar started by a formal inauguration of the event in the morning by Dr Rajiv Tandon, Chairman of Indian Social Club, Sohar. The sports committee of Indian Social Club, Sohar comprising of Mohd. Asim Shabuddin, Ajay Ingle, Ravindran and Sriram K. were responsible for the one day mega event. Each player participating was given a complimentary T-shirt by the organisers. The whole tournament was supervised by certified umpires from Muscat.
Over the course of the day, non-stop 20 hours of cricket was played involving a total of 47 matches.
The five over per innings matches were played both in a round robin league and knock out format in both the grounds including under lights. In the semifinals Enhance Oman beat Vale and Composite Pipe Industries got the better of L & T MFY. In the low scoring finals however Composite Pipe Industries defeated Enhance Oman to win the Elite Paper Corporate Cricket Cup 2018 organised by Indian Social Club, Sohar for the second time. Oman Porcelain was awarded the Fair Play trophy.
The event was followed by a grand prize distribution ceremony. Mahendra Chauhan, representing Elite Paper Products who were also the principal sponsors graced the occasion and witnessed the semifinals and the final.
Supun of Composite Pipe Industries was the Man of the Final match. Aneer of Enhance was declared the Man of the Series while Navin and Prasanth both of Composite Pipe Industries were declared Best Batsman and Best Bowler respectively of the tournament. Mahendra Chauhan gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up team apart from individual trophies which were awarded to the top performers.
At the end of the event Chairman of Indian Social Club, Sohar Dr Rajiv Tandon thanked all the participating teams, sponsors and supporters for attending the event in huge numbers.
The effort of the Sports Committee consisting of Mohd. Asim Shabuddin, Ajay Ingle, Ravindran and Sriram K in organising the event successfully was applauded by all present.
